Payments, Software & Technology – October 26, 2009

  • Aneace's BlogSingapore retailers slow to offer customers the option of paying with contactless cards
October 26, 2009 – Aneace has always done a great job of emphasizing that payment modalities (in this case contactless) must achieve a balance between retailer and consumer preference.
  • Branden Williams's Security Convergence Blog » blogMasterCard/Visa Remove Reciprocity
October 26, 2009 – If you are interested in the world of PCI, and spend any time discussing merchant level definition…take a read. Reciprocity (although oft maligned due to its impact on someone accepting a single JCB card, etc) did, in fact, serve a purpose in simplifying a measure of the discussion regarding reporting requirements.

My advice? Find a trusted advisor (QSA if you need one) to help in navigating the waves of compliance.

  • BankerVisionEverything for nothing
October 26, 2009 – This quote sums it up:

“Planning to do more of the same for the next decade isn’t going to cut it, because that stuff is going to be over. Technological objections won’t fly, because, considering the historical pace of improvement, can anyone really think progress is going to stop in the next 10 years?”

  • PYMNTS VoiceSearch, Social and Swag
October 26, 2009 – Katen Webster writes an excellent piece for pymnts.com on the concept of social search and how it, as a function, is FAR from offsetting traditional online search methodology. The entirety of the article (including a discussion of monetization) is worth reading. But this quote, in particular, I found compelling:

“So, the big question is whether people will, over time, be more likely to use the social networks as a starting point for doing random searches for products or services than the Web. The answer is, probably not anytime soon. But, there is still every reason to think that these networks will be used to informally ask friends for referrals in much the same way that people have been doing offline forever. The fact is that it’s happening already.”

  • Non-Linear VCPayments: A day on the inside
October 26, 2009 – Always interesting to read the perspective that Derek has on industry events that he attends. I have some of my own perspective on items that were released at the Lydian Conference that will be a topic of discussion for tomorrow.
